Blash Sentenced for Illegal Firearm Possession

In a hard-hitting blow to Georgia’s underground gun market, Jonathan Duneil Blash, 29, of Macon, has been sentenced to 27 months in federal prison for possessing an illegal firearm. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Tripp Self on September 8, also includes three years of supervised release.

Blash’s downfall began during a state search warrant execution on February 10, 2019, when Bibb County deputies uncovered not only the Smith & Wesson .38 special revolver and ammunition but also illegal drugs at his apartment. The defendant had purchased the firearm off the street, according to his admission.

“Law enforcement is working tirelessly in Middle Georgia to clamp down on the underground gun market that fuels criminal activity,” said Charles “Charlie” Peeler, the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia. “Convicted felons caught with illegal firearms will face federal charges and serve prison time without parole.”

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an evidence-based program aimed at reducing violent crime, and Project Guardian, a Department of Justice initiative to combat gun violence. Both programs emphasize comprehensive solutions that include partnerships with local agencies and prevention programs.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) investigated the case, which Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul McCommon prosecuted on behalf of the Government.
