Sioux Falls Meth Dealer Gets 10 Years

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Ashton Aman, 37, of Sioux Falls, is headed to federal prison for a decade after admitting his role in a large-scale methamphetamine distribution network. The sentence, handed down November 1, 2021, by District Court Judge Karen Schreier, reflects the severity of Aman’s involvement in flooding the streets with the deadly drug.

Acting United States Attorney Dennis R. Holmes announced the sentencing, detailing how Aman was convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance. According to court documents, Aman knowingly conspired with others to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine—a Schedule II controlled substance—within the District of South Dakota and beyond. The conspiracy stretched from an unknown date until February 2, 2021, when a federal grand jury indicted Aman.

The investigation revealed Aman wasn’t just a small-time dealer. He acted as a key supplier, funneling over 500 grams of methamphetamine to co-conspirators who then pushed the drugs to their own customers. This isn’t about a user; this is about a man actively contributing to the addiction and destruction gripping our communities. Aman pleaded guilty on July 12, 2021, facing the music for his actions.

Beyond the 10-year federal prison sentence, Aman will also serve a 5-year term of supervised release following his incarceration. He’s also been ordered to pay $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund – a paltry sum considering the damage his actions have wrought. The U.S. Marshals Service immediately took Aman into custody, removing a significant player from the Sioux Falls drug trade.

The case was a joint effort between Homeland Security Investigations and the Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force, demonstrating the importance of interagency cooperation in tackling drug trafficking. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Tamara Nash skillfully prosecuted the case, building a solid case against Aman and securing the conviction. This conviction sends a clear message: those who profit from peddling poison will face serious consequences.

Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks operating in South Dakota and across the nation. The fight against methamphetamine is far from over, and we’ll be there to document every bust, every conviction, and every attempt to stem the tide of this devastating drug.
