Stephen Brody Crain Sentenced

Interstate transmission of threats has landed a Texas man in federal prison for 24 months. Stephen Brody Crain, 30, of San Antonio, Texas, was sentenced on August 7, 2025, for sending threats to two Iowa victims and their family members over a period of approximately eight months.

According to public court documents and evidence presented at sentencing, Crain used various means to send threats to his victims. One of the victims was coerced into sending more than $4000 to Crain. Additionally, Crain made false abuse reports to the Iowa Department of Human Services and sent pizza to the victim’s residences, further harassing them.

Crain’s history of similar offenses is disturbing. He was previously convicted of stalking in Texas District Court for Smith County. In that case, Crain sent threatening messages, sent pizza, and called child services to falsely report abuse. Crain was paroled in November 2023, just two months before the threats to the Iowa victims began.

The investigation into Crain’s activities was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations. United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa made the announcement of Crain’s sentencing. Crain will be required to serve a three-year term of supervised release after completing his term of imprisonment.

Crain was also ordered to pay $4,117 in restitution to his victims. The sentence of 24 months in federal prison is a significant one, and Crain will have to serve the entire term as there is no parole in the federal system. This sentence reflects the seriousness of Crain’s offenses and the need to protect his victims and the community from further harm.

The case of Stephen Brody Crain highlights the importance of taking threats seriously and the need for swift action to protect victims. The cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the prosecution is crucial in bringing perpetrators to justice and ensuring that they are held accountable for their actions.

In conclusion, the sentencing of Stephen Brody Crain to 24 months in federal prison for interstate transmission of threats serves as a reminder of the consequences of such actions. It is essential for individuals to respect the boundaries and safety of others, and for law enforcement to continue to work diligently to protect the public from those who would seek to harm them.
