HARRISBURG – A gritty tale of escape and capture unfolds as Kyle Eugene Gordon, 37, of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, stands sentenced for his daring break from federal custody. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania revealed today that Gordon was slammed with a 12-month, one-day prison term to be followed by three years on supervised release after U.S. District Judge Karoline Mehalchick imposed the sentence.
Gordon, who had been incarcerated at the Capital Pavilion Residential Reentry Center in Dauphin County for his involvement in narcotics and firearms offenses, vanished from the facility on October 7, 2024, sparking a relentless search by law enforcement. It took just eight days for the U.S. Marshals to track him down.
The United States Attorney’s Office was acting through its chief, Acting United States Attorney John C. Gurganus, who emphasized the gravity of Gordon’s offense. The Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force was instrumental in the investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Scalera handling the prosecution.
“Gordon’s escape from federal custody was a serious breach of trust and law enforcement’s commitment to public safety,” Gurganus stated. “The swift capture by our dedicated Marshals Service is a testament to their professionalism.”
For his part, Gordon will now serve time behind bars before facing the additional challenges of supervised release. The sentence sends a stark message about the consequences of attempting to evade justice.
“This sentencing underscores the commitment of our office and the U.S. Marshals Service to ensure that no one who flees from federal custody goes unpunished,” Gurganus concluded. “# # #”
