Elementary Teacher Accused of Sickening Child Porn Ring

KANSAS CITY, MO – A Kansas City-area elementary school teacher is facing federal charges after authorities uncovered a disturbing trove of child pornography linked to his online activity. Dennis Adlai Hernandez, 28, of Independence, Missouri, has been accused of sickening crimes that have shaken the local community and triggered a federal investigation.

Hernandez was charged in a three-count federal criminal complaint filed today in U.S. District Court. The charges include transportation of child pornography, production and attempted production of child pornography, and possession of child pornography. He was arrested at his home yesterday following the execution of a federal search warrant and remains in custody awaiting his initial appearance before a federal magistrate.

The case began to unravel on August 19, 2025, when the Federal Bureau of Investigations received 19 CyberTipline Reports (“Cybertips”) from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (“NCMEC”). These reports stemmed from disclosures made by Google on August 18th, indicating multiple files of apparent child sexual abuse material had been uploaded to a Google Photos account linked to Hernandez. Agents subsequently obtained and executed a search warrant on August 20th, revealing further evidence.

If convicted, Hernandez faces a severe penalty. Transportation of child pornography carries a minimum sentence of 5 years and a maximum of 20 years in prison. Production and attempted production of such material carries a minimum of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years. Possession of child pornography carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. These are statutory maximums; the actual sentence will be determined by the court based on sentencing guidelines and other factors.

The FBI is now actively seeking potential victims of Hernandez. Anyone who believes they or a child they know may have been victimized is urged to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. Parents or guardians should make the call on behalf of children under 18. The FBI stresses that responses are voluntary but could lead to further investigation. Identifying victims is a legal mandate for federal investigations, and victims may be eligible for services, restitution, and rights under the law.

It’s crucial to remember that these are merely accusations at this stage. Hernandez is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a federal trial. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alison Dunning is prosecuting the case, with the investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigations. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
