Spa Prostitution Ring Dismantled
Omaha, NE – In a major blow to organized crime, 46-year-old Kimberly A. Bivens was sentenced to 37 months in federal prison followed by 3 years of supervised release for her role in running a prostitution ring disguised as a spa.
According to court documents, Bivens managed or owned three spa locations in Omaha, Nebraska, from 2009 to October 24, 2011. She placed advertisements for each of the three spas on the internet, luring customers with promises of legitimate spa services. However, what customers received was anything but legitimate – they were offered sex acts in exchange for money.
The majority of customers came from Omaha, but some traveled from Iowa and other states to engage in the illicit activities. In total, there were five or more participants operating and managing the three spa locations, with over twenty workers providing commercial sex acts.
The investigation into Bivens’ operation was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Omaha Police Department. United States Attorney Deborah R. Gilg announced the sentencing, which brings an end to a lengthy and complex investigation.
Bivens had previously pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to use facilities in interstate commerce to promote a business enterprise involving prostitution and to persuade an individual to travel in interstate commerce to engage in prostitution.
