Alien Illegally Re-enters USA
Cristian Edgardo Mejia-diaz, a 25-year-old citizen of El Salvador, has been found guilty of re-entering the United States without consent.
According to court documents, Mejia-diaz was previously removed from the country, but was found in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, on November 13, 2012. He had not obtained the necessary permission from the Secretary of Homeland Security to reapply for admission.
The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Enforcement and Removal Operations. Prosecution of the case was handled by Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Weir.
Mejia-diaz faces a maximum two-year prison sentence, a fine of $250,000, and one year of supervised release following any term of imprisonment. Sentencing is scheduled to take place on April 18, 2013 at 10:00 A.M.
The guilty plea is a significant blow to immigration violators, who will now face the consequences of their actions. Mejia-diaz’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of following the rules and regulations in place to govern immigration.
