Ball Woman Sentenced for Theft of Government Funds
A 70-year-old Ball woman was sentenced to three years probation for her role in the theft of government funds. EZOLA ISAAC, of Ball, Louisiana, was handed down the sentence after previously pleading guilty to the crime.
According to court documents, ISAAC received Social Security Title II Benefit payments to which she knew she was not entitled. The scheme allowed her to collect a total of $165,878.80 in benefits that she was not due.
U.S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle imposed the sentence on ISAAC, citing her guilty plea and the severity of the crime. The judge ordered ISAAC to pay restitution to the Social Security Administration in the amount of $165,878.80, a staggering sum that reflects the extent of her wrongdoing.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite praised the work of the United States Social Security Administration- Office of Inspector General in investigating this matter. ‘Their tireless efforts have brought this woman to justice,’ Polite said.
Assistant United States Attorney Loan ‘Mimi’ Nguyen was in charge of the prosecution. Nguyen’s work ensured that ISAAC was held accountable for her actions, and that the government was able to recover the stolen funds.
