Toni Lee Mesh, Embezzlement, Oklahoma 2023

⏱ 2 min read

Toni Lee Mesh, a 40-year-old former office manager from Vinita, Oklahoma, was sentenced to 46 months in prison for stealing over $700,000 from her employers in Pryor and Broken Arrow. Mesh abused her position of trust to embezzle funds for unauthorized transactions, including falsifying business checks after she was fired. Her embezzlement scheme, which lasted from 2023 to 2024, was uncovered by the US Secret Service.

Mesh’s crime spree began in 2023 when she was hired as the office manager and accountant for two privately owned manufacturing businesses in Pryor. She was responsible for handling the business’s accounting system, processing revenues and expenses, and handling payroll. However, she used this position to embezzle nearly $580,000 before being fired in June 2024.

After her termination, Mesh continued to falsify business checks, and just two months later, she was hired as an office manager by a business in Broken Arrow. She was employed there for less than 90 days but managed to steal over $100,000. Mesh’s history of fraud dates back to previous convictions in state court for embezzlement, unauthorized use of a credit card, and uttering a forged instrument.

US District Judge Raul M Arias-Marxuach sentenced Mesh to 46 months imprisonment, followed by five years of supervised release. She was also ordered to pay $703,938.41 in restitution. Mesh was permitted to remain on bond and voluntarily surrender to the US Bureau of Prisons. The case was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney David D. Whipple.
