Brevard County Man Pleads Guilty to Child Porn Possession
Orlando, Florida – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, 62-year-old William Alfred Harris of Cape Canaveral has pleaded guilty to possessing child sexual abuse material, also known as CSAM.
According to court documents, Harris’s guilty plea comes after a lengthy investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In January 2023, the FBI identified Harris as a target in a probe into file-sharing platforms, where CSAM was being shared. In May 2023, FBI agents executed a search warrant at Harris’s residence, seizing his laptop and uncovering a stash of CSAM, three file wipers, and encryption software.
As part of his plea agreement, Harris faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison. A sentencing date has not yet been set. Assistant United States Attorney Megan Testerman is handling the prosecution in this case.
This case is a stark reminder of the ongoing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice, aims to combat this growing problem. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), the project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
The FBI’s investigation into Harris’s activities is a testament to the agency’s commitment to protecting our nation’s most vulnerable citizens. As the FBI continues to crack down on online predators, it’s essential that we remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent child exploitation.
