FORT WAYNE – A local man has been sentenced to 180 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking ring. Brian Britt, 30, was sentenced by United States District Court Chief Judge Holly A. Brady after pleading guilty to possessing with intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl and possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to investigators, Britt was involved in the sale of fentanyl pills in the parking lot of a downtown Fort Wayne apartment building. In December of 2022 and January of 2023, law enforcement conducted three controlled buys of fentanyl pills from Britt, resulting in the seizure of approximately 6,500 fentanyl pills.
Additionally, in March of 2023, Britt was found to be in possession of over 400 grams of additional fentanyl for sale, as well as a .223 caliber rifle and a .40 caliber pistol with an extended magazine.
Britt’s sentencing comes as part of a larger effort to combat fentanyl trafficking in the region. The case was investigated by the FBI’s Fort Wayne Safe Streets Gang Task Force, which includes the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Indiana State Police, the Allen County Sheriff’s Department, and the Fort Wayne Police Department.
The case was also part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation, which aims to identify and dismantle high-level drug traffickers and transnational criminal organizations.
Britt was sentenced to 180 months in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony W. Geller.
This case was also part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and community organizations.
Britt’s sentencing marks a significant victory in the fight against fentanyl trafficking in Fort Wayne.
