Jonathon Mark Brinlee, Making a False Statement, Oklahoma 2024

MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – A hard-hitting sentence has landed on a Bryan County resident after he was caught fibbing during the purchase of a firearm. Jonathon Mark Brinlee, 40, from Calera, has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in federal prison for making a false statement.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced the sentence following an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Choctaw Nation Lighthorse Police. The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence.

Brinlee pleaded guilty on April 3, 2025, to the charge of making a false statement during the purchase of a firearm. He was caught in a lie on November 11, 2024, when he checked ‘No’ to Question 22i on Form 4473, which asks whether the applicant is under any protective order. The revelation came just two days after Brinlee had been served with a protective order from the Choctaw Nation Tribal Court.

Chief U.S. District Judge Ronald A. White presided over the hearing. Upon completion of his sentence, Brinlee will be transported to a designated prison facility by the U.S. Marshals Service to serve his non-paroleable term of incarceration. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jonathan E. Soverly represented the United States in the case.

The PSN was launched on May 26, 2021, and focuses on fostering trust, supporting community-based organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results to make neighborhoods safer for everyone.
