A 445.3-gram methamphetamine deal went sour for an Arizona man in Nebraska.
Carlos Loya-Rodriguez, 33, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy, according to Acting United States Attorney Matthew Molsen. Loya-Rodriguez, of Phoenix, Arizona, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of actual methamphetamine.
On January 2, 2024, an undercover agent purchased the large quantity of methamphetamine from Loya-Rodriguez in Omaha. Less than two months later, on February 5, 2024, law enforcement officers initiated a traffic stop after observing Loya-Rodriguez commit traffic infractions. A K9 sniff of the vehicle indicated the presence of narcotics, leading to the discovery of 419.9 grams of actual methamphetamine.
A search of Loya-Rodriguez’s residence in Omaha yielded an additional 450 grams of methamphetamine, 344 grams of cocaine, a scale with suspected drug residue, and $40,970 in cash. The cash was seized, as was $20,225 found in the vehicle.
Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down the sentence, which includes a 3-year term of supervised release. Loya-Rodriguez will also forfeit $61,195 in cash, which was deemed to be drug proceeds or used to facilitate his trafficking activities.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Omaha Police Department, as part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation.
