A 35-year-old Birmingham man, Robert Lee Ford Jr, has pleaded guilty to producing child sexual abuse material after a report of an assault on a 14-year-old girl led to his arrest. The incident occurred in January 2025, when a deputy from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Children’s of Alabama hospital. Ford’s online accounts were searched, revealing videos of child sex abuse material produced using the minor victim on multiple dates in December 2024 and January 2025.
The FBI continued investigating and executed federal search warrants on Ford’s online accounts, leading to the discovery of the disturbing content. The US Attorney’s office and law enforcement partners worked together to drive the case to a successful conclusion.
US Attorney Phillip W. Williams Jr stated that children deserve to be protected from those who seek to exploit and abuse them, and that Ford’s guilty plea holds him accountable for the harm caused to the victim. The FBI also emphasized their commitment to pursuing individuals who victimize children and working with law enforcement partners to ensure they face justice.
Ford pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of children after jury selection in a trial before Chief US District Judge Madeline H. Haikala. The case highlights the importance of protecting children from exploitation and abuse, and the dedication of law enforcement agencies in bringing perpetrators to justice.
