A ruthless opioid trafficking ring in Southern California has been brought to its knees, with one of its key players, Justin Douglas Cozart, 48, of Woodland Hills, receiving a whopping 18 years in federal prison for his role.
Cozart, the operator of several corrupt ChiroMed medical clinics, including ones in Inglewood, Santa Ana, and Anaheim, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute oxycodone, conspiracy to launder monetary instruments, and concealment money laundering.
Between 2017 and 2020, Cozart and his cohorts recruited fake patients to obtain oxycodone prescriptions, which were then filled and shipped to the black market in the Boston area.
On two occasions, law enforcement seized parcels containing the pills, dealing a major blow to the operation.
Cozart’s right-hand man, Dr. John Korzelius, was also involved, issuing whopping prescriptions for 60 30 milligram oxycodone pills at a clinic in Inglewood.
