A 70-year-old Connecticut resident and her brother, a skilled con artist, swindled state treasuries out of over $1.2 million in unclaimed property, a scheme that spanned nearly a decade.
Patricia White and her brother Henry, 65, used fake corporate identities to file false claims for unclaimed assets, which were then sent to their shared address in Connecticut. They deposited the stolen cash into a joint bank account, using it for personal expenses like mortgage payments.
The scheme, which lasted from 2013 to 2022, targeted state treasuries across the US. Henry White was sentenced to 37 months in prison in December 2025, while Patricia White received a nine-month sentence on April 27, 2026. Both were ordered to pay $1.2 million in restitution.
Patricia White, who pleaded guilty to her role in the scam, will surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on May 8, 2026.
