Elvin Mejia-Guzman, Illegal Re-Entry, Louisiana 2025

New Orleans, Louisiana – Elvin Mejia-Guzman, the Honduran national accused of illegal re-entry into the United States, has been sentenced to time served by U.S. District Judge Eldon E. Fallon. Mejia-Guzman, 36, had previously pleaded guilty to violating Title 8, United States Code, Section 1326(a), which prohibits the illegal reentry of a removed alien.

The defendant was apprehended in the United States on March 26, 2025, after having been deported on June 21, 2010. Mejia-Guzman’s sentence also includes one year of supervised release and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.

Acting United States Attorney Michael M. Simpson commended the efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations, Kenner Police Department, and Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office in the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Jon M. Maestri led the prosecution for this case.

This conviction is a part of Operation Take Back America, a national initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration, eliminating cartels, and protecting communities from violent crime. The operation leverages resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Mejia-Guzman’s sentence serves as a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who attempt to circumvent U.S. immigration laws.
