Christopher Douglas Showah, a 51-year-old felon from Indianola, Mississippi, has been sentenced to 96 months in federal prison for illegally possessing dozens of firearms and committing aviation fraud. Showah pleaded guilty to three federal felonies, including possession of firearms by a convicted felon, flying without a valid airman’s certificate, and fraud relating to maintenance work performed on an aircraft donated to Delta State University. The investigation began when the Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General discovered that Showah was flying despite having his airman’s certificate suspended by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Further investigation revealed that Showah had conducted inspections and performed maintenance on an aircraft without proper certification, putting the lives of students at Delta State University at risk. A search of his property turned up almost 40 firearms, which Showah was prohibited from possessing due to prior felony convictions in Sunflower and Sharkey Counties.
The case was investigated by the Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General, the Mississippi Agricultural & Livestock Theft Bureau, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
