Jake Noland Northern, a Sioux Falls man, pleaded guilty to distributing fentanyl pills in southwestern Minnesota, which led to the accidental fatal fentanyl poisoning of a young man in Pipestone. From February 2023 to April 21, 2023, Northern operated a distribution network from Sioux Falls, selling pressed fentanyl pills to users and distributors. On April 21, 2023, he sold pills to an individual for $200, which the victim consumed, resulting in a fatal overdose.
Northern admitted to knowingly and intentionally distributing fentanyl pills, violating federal law. He also acknowledged a prior federal conviction for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, which increased the penalties in this case. The victim’s loved ones hope that his story will bring awareness to the dangers of fentanyl and help save others from similar tragedies.
