A Mexican national, Miguel Mario Soto De Santiago, 25, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for bringing large quantities of heroin and fentanyl into the District of Utah. The crimes occurred on February 19, 2025, in Bluffdale, Utah, where Soto De Santiago resided illegally. He pleaded guilty on May 5, 2026, to possession of heroin with intent to distribute, admitting he brought the drugs to Utah for profit.
Soto De Santiago was found to be in possession of 5027 grams of fentanyl and 1103 grams of heroin. His sentence, imposed by U.S. District Court Judge Dale A. Kimball, includes four years of supervised release. Upon completion of his prison term, Soto De Santiago will be remanded to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for deportation proceedings.
The case was investigated by the Wasatch Metro Drug Task Force (WMDTF) and the Davis Metro Narcotic Strike Force (DMNSF), with the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office playing a key role. U.S. Attorney Melissa Holyoak and Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls of the Salt Lake City FBI emphasized the importance of removing drug traffickers from the community and the commitment to prosecuting these crimes to the fullest extent of the law.
The sentencing is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating drug trafficking. Soto De Santiago’s case demonstrates the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to protect communities from the dangers of heroin and fentanyl.
