Philadelphia Man Sentenced to 70 Months in Federal Prison for Narcotics and Money Laundering
A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison for his role in a large-scale narcotics trafficking operation, the Grimy Times has learned. Malik Byers, 29, was sentenced to 70 months in prison and four years of supervised release for his conviction on charges of violating federal narcotics laws and money laundering.
According to court documents, Byers conspired to distribute significant quantities of methamphetamine, fentanyl, and cocaine base, commonly known as crack, between July 5, 2018, and May 5, 2020. The investigation, led by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), revealed that Byers was involved in a large-scale narcotics trafficking operation that brought significant quantities of illicit substances into the Philadelphia area.
The OCDETF investigation was a multi-agency effort, involving the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, the Pennsylvania State Police, and the Indiana Borough Police Department. The task force used a prosecutor-led, intelligence-driven approach to identify and dismantle high-level drug traffickers and money launderers who threaten communities throughout the United States.
Assistant United States Attorney Arnold P. Bernard, Jr. prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. United States District Judge Kim R. Gibson imposed the sentence on Byers, who has been held in federal custody since his arrest.
