MOBILE, AL – A grim chapter in Foley’s crime saga concluded today as Ladarious Roper, a 22-year-old man with a violent past, was sentenced to 85 months behind bars for possessing a firearm in connection with a shooting. The sentence handed down by Chief Judge Beaverstock also includes a 3-year term of supervised release and a $100 special assessment fee.
Roper’s crime spree began on October 11, 2024, when he allegedly used a CZ Scorpion semi-automatic weapon in an attack that left a victim with a gunshot wound to the lower leg. The scene was described by witnesses as chaotic, with five shots fired and a suspect wearing a red ski mask leading a getaway in a Toyota Camry.
Police responded to the scene where they found evidence pointing directly at Roper. An empty Camry, a red ski mask, and an AR style pistol were recovered near the scene. A cell phone belonging to Roper was also found in the car, containing numerous videos of him holding a firearm identical to the one used in the shooting.
During his sentencing, Chief Judge Beaverstock ordered that Roper pay $100 in special assessments and that the seized firearm be forfeited. U.S. Attorney Sean P. Costello announced the sentence, emphasizing the ongoing efforts of Operation Take Back America to combat violent crime and illegal immigration.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Foley Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kacey Chappelear prosecuting on behalf of the United States. This case is a part of Operation Take Back America, which aims to eliminate cartels, transnational criminal organizations, and protect communities from violent crime.
