⏱ 4 min read

A 15-year-old girl is dead after Kelvin Reyes, a 27-year-old Gaithersburg man, sold her a fatal dose of fentanyl on Instagram. The teen contacted Reyes on the social media platform on January 13, 2023, and arranged to meet him at an elementary school in Montgomery County to buy the powerful opioid.

Reyes agreed to sell the fentanyl, and the teen provided him with an address for delivery. The next morning, January 14, Reyes was caught on camera at the school, where he had agreed to meet the victim.

According to the investigation, Reyes’s phone was located at the school, and he had been communicating with the victim throughout the night. The teen later used the fentanyl and died.

Reyes has pleaded guilty to distribution of controlled substances, a charge that carries significant prison time. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is committed to holding those accountable who endanger our children and neighborhoods by dealing poison in our communities.

Reyes is set to be sentenced for his crimes, but for now, he faces a hefty price for his callous actions and disregard for human life. The case is a stark reminder of the dangers of fentanyl trafficking and the devastating consequences it can have on our communities.
