HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – In a stunning turn of events, Derrick Deshawn Bailey, 44, of Huntington, has pleaded guilty to distributing over 100 grams of methamphetamine. The court documents paint a grim picture of Bailey’s activities on April 29, 2025, when he sold the illegal substance to an informant.
This plea comes as a significant victory for the law enforcement agencies involved, particularly the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force and the Huntington Police Department, which have tirelessly combated drug trafficking in the area. Bailey now faces a mandatory minimum of five years, potentially up to 40 years, in federal prison.
According to officials, the case will be presided over by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers, who has been at the forefront of criminal justice in the Southern District of West Virginia. Assistant United States Attorney Courtney L. Finney will handle the prosecution.
The announcement was made by Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston, who also commended the hard work and dedication of the law enforcement personnel involved. Bailey is scheduled to be sentenced on January 12, 2026, where he could also face supervised release lasting at least four years and a fine reaching $1 million.
