Michael Janisch, Possession of Controlled Substances with Intent to Distribute, Washington 2024

⏱ 2 min read

A 27-year-old Mercer Island resident, Michael Janisch, has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for his role in a large-scale drug trafficking scheme that involved hundreds of thousands of dollars in illicit proceeds and a stockpile of firearms, including Glock switches and 3D printed guns, in Seattle, Washington. Janisch pleaded guilty to possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. The investigation, which spanned years, culminated in his arrest in October 2024, along with 13 other individuals.

Janisch used social media and his suburban rental house to prepare and mail drug shipments to customers across the country, while armed with an arsenal of over 30 weapons, high-capacity magazines, and thousands of rounds of ammunition. His communications on Snapchat revealed discussions with associates about the drug trade, including Bryce Hill, who was arrested and is now serving a 35-year sentence for drug trafficking.

Despite being aware of Hill’s arrest, Janisch continued his drug dealing, with communications via Snapchat detailing his trafficking in cocaine, MDMA, and firearms. The case highlights the involvement of firearms in the drug trade, compounding the risk to the community, as noted by U.S. District Judge John H. Chun.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Neil Floyd stated that the case demonstrates how individuals from privileged backgrounds can be lured into the drug trade and associated gun violence. Janisch’s sentencing serves as a reminder of the consequences of such involvement.
