Waco Man Sentenced for Distributing Child Pornography
Lincoln, NE – In a disturbing case of online exploitation, Jay Gilmore, 40, of Waco, Nebraska, was sentenced to 200 months in prison for distributing child pornography.
US Attorney Lesley A. Woods announced the sentencing, which took place on May 8, 2025, in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska. US District Judge Susan M. Bazis handed down the sentence, which includes no parole in the federal system.
After Gilmore’s release from prison, he will begin a 20-year term of supervised release. Additionally, Gilmore was ordered to pay $9,000 in restitution. This case is a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and the importance of combating it.
The investigation into Gilmore’s activities began when US Probation officers received information indicating that he was in possession of an unapproved electronic device. A search of his residence yielded 25 unapproved devices, which were subsequently turned over to the Lincoln Police Department for forensic evaluation.
The evaluation revealed a shocking 165 images of child pornography, as well as evidence that Gilmore had visited various websites indicative of child pornography and incest. This is not Gilmore’s first offense – he had previously been convicted in the US District Court for the District of Nebraska of receipt and distribution of child pornography in violation of 18 U.S.C. §2252A(a)(2) at case number 4:11CR3000.
Gilmore’s case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. This initiative marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
The Lincoln Police Department led the investigation into Gilmore’s activities, highlighting the importance of law enforcement agencies working together to combat online exploitation.
Gilmore’s case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of child exploitation and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable. The sentence handed down by Judge Bazis reflects the severity of the crime and the need for strong consequences to protect our children.
