Seann Mackey, a 32-year-old from Mount Pleasant, Iowa, was involved in a conspiracy that distributed at least 3000 grams of mixed methamphetamine, containing at least 150 grams of pure methamphetamine, between June 2024 and December 2024 in Sioux City. On December 20, 2024, Mackey led law enforcement on a high-speed chase before attempting to flee on foot, throwing a firearm during the pursuit. He was apprehended and found with methamphetamine, empty baggies, a digital scale, and a loaded Glock 9mm handgun. Mackey’s prior felony convictions, including delivery and possession of controlled substances, prohibited him from possessing firearms and enhanced his sentencing penalties.
Mackey pleaded guilty on February 2, 2026, and was sentenced to 131 months in federal prison on June 22, 2026, by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. He will also serve an eight-year term of supervised release, with no possibility of parole.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and community organizations. The Department of Justice launched a violent crime reduction strategy in 2021, focusing on trust, community-based organizations, strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
Mackey’s sentencing reflects the severity of his crimes and the ongoing efforts to combat meth trafficking and gun violence in Iowa. His conviction and imprisonment demonstrate the collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the community to make neighborhoods safer.
