A high-speed chase through DeKalb County turned deadly as Mexican national Edgar Zamarron-Cobos attempted to flee from law enforcement with over 130 pounds of methamphetamine. On April 15, 2026, DEA agents surveillance caught Zamarron-Cobos loading the illicit cargo into a Jeep at a Decatur fast-food joint.
Zamarron-Cobos’ subsequent attempt to outrun the law ended in catastrophe, as he careened into several occupied vehicles and crashed at the intersection of Covington Highway and I-285. Miraculously, innocent bystanders suffered injuries in the wreck.
Law enforcement recovered the massive meth haul, which would have had a devastating impact on the local community. Zamarron-Cobos, an illegal alien from Mexico, will now face federal charges for his role in the trafficking operation.
A U.S. Attorney vowed to hold the defendant accountable in federal court, where he’ll face a stiffer sentence without the possibility of parole.
