A brutal beating with a metal bar at a South Dakota residence left a victim with a skull fracture and subdural hematoma. Jacob Wright, 31, of Mission, SD, is now headed to prison for the assaults that required emergency surgery.
The crime went down on April 23, 2025, when Wright and the victim got into an argument at a residence south of Okreek, South Dakota. After the victim entered the home, Wright struck him with a metal bar, causing the severe head injuries.
Wright was indicted for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury in December 2025. He pleaded guilty on January 26, 2026. U.S. District Judge Eric C. Schulte handed down the sentence on April 21, 2026.
The case was investigated by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Abby VanDenBerg. Wright was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
