MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA – Derrick Leron Jordan, a 49-year-old man from Okmulgee, has entered a guilty plea for failing to register as a sex offender. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced this grim development.
Jordan, who was required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) following his 1999 conviction for Rape First Degree and Oral Sodomy, has been charged with violating Title 18, United States Code, Sections 2250(a)(1), 2250(a)(2)(B), and 2250(a)(3). The offense carries a potential sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment, a fine not exceeding $250,000.00, or both.
The charges stem from Jordan’s failure to register and update his registration information from December 14, 2018, until March 24, 2020. His travels in interstate commerce while evading the requirements of SORNA further compounded his criminal activity.
This case was the result of a joint investigation by the Okmulgee Police Department and the United States Marshals Service, demonstrating the commitment to justice that these agencies maintain.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven P. Shreder accepted Jordan’s plea in Muskogee and has ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report to guide his sentencing. Special Assistant United States Attorney Courtney Jordan represented the government during the change of plea hearing.
Jordan now awaits his fate as the justice system determines the appropriate punishment for his serious offense against public safety.
