Brooklyn federal court handed down a 60-month sentence today to Domagoj Patkovic, an Oregon native, for orchestrating swatting and bomb threats at Jewish hospitals across New York City and Long Island.
The defendant’s despicable actions, which began in May 2021, targeted historically Jewish care centers with violent phone calls and false explosive device threats. Patkovic himself made at least six calls to hospitals, including one that led to a local law enforcement response. His sinister motives were further amplified by his livestreaming of these incidents online.
United States Attorney Joseph Nocella Jr. lambasted Patkovic’s actions, stating, ‘His actions endangered patients and diverted law enforcement resources to fuel a tide of antisemitism.’ The attorney vowed the Office would pursue such hate-motivated crimes to the fullest extent of the law.
FBI Assistant Director in Charge Christopher G. Raia echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the FBI’s commitment to justice for those who use swatting and false bomb threats to cause panic. ‘Patkovic’s antisemitic views wasted precious resources and endangered lives,’ said Raia.
Details of the case were outlined by Assistant United States Attorneys Alexander A. Solomon, Laura Zuckerwise, and Andrew D. Reich, with Trial Attorney James Donnelly and Paralegal Specialist Wayne Colon providing support.
Patkovic, 31, from Portland, Oregon, will now serve his sentence in a federal penitentiary, marking the conclusion of a case that has shocked the Jewish community and law enforcement alike.
