Defendant Sentenced for Illegal Reentry into the United States

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – In a significant blow to transnational crime, a Brazilian national has been sentenced for his role in reentering the United States without permission. Paulo Henrique Fernandes Evaristo, 26, pleaded guilty to the charge of illegal reentry of a removed alien.

On July 10, 2025, Senior United States District Judge Joy Flowers Conti imposed the sentence of time served and one year of supervised release on Fernandes Evaristo after he had been found in Glassport, Pennsylvania, on March 5, 2025. According to information presented to the Court, Fernandes Evaristo had reentered the United States without the permission of the Secretary of Homeland Security after having been previously removed on October 7, 2021.

Assistant United States Attorney Carolyn J. Bloch prosecuted this case on behalf of the government. Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti commended U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Fernandes Evaristo.

The case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the government to achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations, combat illegal immigration, and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime.

Fernandes Evaristo’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the laws of the United States. His conviction sends a strong message that those who engage in such activities will be held accountable.
