Rahn Charged in Assault on Federal Officer

A Parmelee man has been charged with assaulting a federal officer, according to U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson.

William Rahn, age 27, was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 16, 2013, for Assaulting, Resisting, Opposing, and Impeding a Federal Officer.

Rahn appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on July 8, 2013, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; 3 years of supervised release; and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

The charge is merely an accusation, and Rahn is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tim Maher is prosecuting the case.

Rahn was released to a third-party custodian pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
