Rapid City Woman Guilty of Methamphetamine Conspiracy
A Rapid City woman has been found guilty of conspiring to distribute methamphetamine on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
39-year-old Diana Bald Eagle pleaded guilty to Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance in a U.S. Magistrate Judge’s courtroom on July 26, 2013. The penalty for conviction is a mandatory minimum of 5 years and up to 40 years’ imprisonment, and/or a $5,000,000 fine.
Between August 2009 and February 2013, Bald Eagle reportedly conspired with others to distribute methamphetamine on and around the reservation. The investigation into the case was conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Task Force.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Ted L. McBride is prosecuting the case, and a presentence investigation has been ordered. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service pending sentencing.
The investigation and subsequent guilty plea is a significant blow to the illicit methamphetamine trade in the region. Authorities have been working tirelessly to combat the growing problem of methamphetamine use and distribution on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.
As the case moves forward, the community can expect to see increased efforts to disrupt and dismantle the networks responsible for bringing this highly addictive and destructive substance into our neighborhoods.
