A convenience store in Valdosta, Georgia, was the scene of a terrifying gunfight on February 19, 2025, when Eric Jerome Tooley, 46, fired three shots inside the Mega Mart on North Lee Street. Customers were caught in the crossfire, and a responding officer spotted Tooley fleeing the scene.
According to investigators, Tooley, a convicted felon with a lengthy history, had shown a complete disregard for human life. ATF Resident Agent in Charge Robert Davis called the incident a ‘complete disregard for human life.’
Tooley’s crimes didn’t go unnoticed. On January 22, he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Fast-forward to April 23, when Senior U.S. District Judge Louis Sands sentenced Tooley to 212 months in prison, plus five years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney William R. ‘Will’ Keyes praised the work of law enforcement agencies in bringing Tooley to justice, saying, ‘Convicted felons with guns who threaten public safety will be prosecuted federally and held accountable under the law.’
