Fort Thompson Man Pleads Guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance
A 26-year-old man from Fort Thompson, South Dakota, has been convicted of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, according to a recent plea agreement.
Ryan Scott pleaded guilty to the indictment on January 25, 2013, before United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. The maximum penalty for this crime is 5 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both.
Scott’s conviction stems from an incident that occurred on February 25, 2011, when a vehicle he was in went into the ditch. Deputies from the Rosebud Police Department detected a strong odor of marihuana and searched the vehicle, discovering a bag containing over one pound of marihuana.
The investigation into Scott’s activities was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Rosebud Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kathryn N. Rich is prosecuting the case.
Following his guilty plea, Scott was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing, which is set for March 27, 2013.
