Travis R. Moreland, a 37-year-old Columbia, Missouri man, was busted in an online sting operation for attempting to entice and sex traffic a minor. On December 29, 2025, Moreland allegedly engaged in online communication with an undercover law enforcement officer posing as a 16-year-old minor, arranging to meet for sex in exchange for $80. He was arrested after arriving at the agreed-upon location.
After his arrest, law enforcement analyzed Moreland’s cell phone and found over 8,000 files depicting child sexual abuse material. The investigation was conducted by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office and the Boone County Cyber Crimes Taskforce.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Moreland’s indictment includes charges of attempted enticement and sex trafficking of a minor, as well as child pornography offenses.
The prosecution of this case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley S. Turner. The charges against Moreland are accusations and not evidence of guilt, with evidence to be presented to a federal trial jury to determine his guilt or innocence.
