Rutland Woman Sentenced to 29 Months for Cocaine Distribution
Burlington, Vermont – Stephanie Horvath, 39, of Rutland, Vermont, was sentenced to 29 months’ imprisonment by Chief United States District Judge Christina Reiss. Horvath will also face a 3-year term of supervised release following her imprisonment.
According to court records, Horvath previously pleaded guilty to distributing cocaine base to a law enforcement confidential informant in June 2023, in Rutland. The investigation revealed that Horvath ‘middled’ drug sales for a group of armed drug suppliers starting in 2017-18, and continued until her arrest in August 2023.
Horvath was involved in the distribution of cocaine base and heroin/fentanyl at the Highlander Motel in Rutland in 2022 and 2023. She distributed controlled substances herself, as well as had others distribute drugs from her hotel room. During the investigation, five controlled purchases were conducted by the Vermont State Police’s Drug Task Force involving Horvath’s room between December 2022 and June 2023.
Records indicate that in November 2022, Horvath’s acquisition of a large supply of cocaine and heroin/fentanyl from another supplier was associated with the violent assault of one of her associates. United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest commended the collaborative efforts of the Vermont State Police’s Drug Task Force, the Rutland City Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jason Turner and Jonathan A. Ophardt. Horvath was represented by Natasha Sen, Esq. The investigation into Horvath’s activities is a testament to the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in Vermont.
