⏱ 2 min read

A former Lee’s Summit West High School teacher, Seth Brummond, 39, of Greenwood, Missouri, was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography. Brummond pleaded guilty to sharing over 60 videos depicting child pornography using the Kik Messaging application between September 2024 and December 2024. The investigation began when Lee’s Summit Police Officers received a Cyber Tip Report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, leading to Brummond’s arrest in December 2024. Brummond’s cell phone was seized, and hundreds of images and videos containing depictions of child pornography were found. He admitted to investigators that he had shared child pornography on the Kik Messaging application.

The case was investigated by the Lee’s Summit, Missouri Police Department and the Heart of America Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory. Assistant U.S. Attorney David Luna prosecuted the case, which was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

U.S. District Judge Greg Kays sentenced Brummond to 12 years in federal prison without parole, followed by 10 years of supervised release. This sentence reflects the severity of Brummond’s crimes and the harm caused to his victims.

The Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood initiative aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
