Chinatown Walgreens Robberies: 10.5 Years

⏱ 2 min read

Gianni Robinson, 28, is facing over a decade in federal prison for masterminding a seven-hit spree on a Walgreens in D.C.’s Chinatown. Between July 2023 and February 2024, Robinson used inside information and a masked gunman to steal roughly $28,983. One Walgreens employee was shot in the chest during the robberies.

The operation was an inside job. Robinson, the ringleader, tapped his uncle, Michael Robinson, and another Walgreens manager, London Teeter, for security details and operational know-how. He then passed that intel to Kamanye Williams, who carried out the armed robberies at the 8th and 7th Streets NW location.

Prosecutors detailed how Robinson wasn’t just coordinating; he provided Williams with access codes, greenlit the initial heist, and handled the getaway. The callousness of the operation was revealed when Robinson shared a YouTube link of surveillance footage of one of the robberies with Williams – along with a laughing emoji – a gesture that clearly enraged Judge Jia M. Cobb.

“He thought the crimes he conspired on were funny,” U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro stated after today’s sentencing. “Now, after seven robberies, countless traumatized employees and one man shot in the chest, Robinson isn’t laughing anymore.” Robinson received 126 months, five years of supervised release, and is ordered to pay $7,245.75 in restitution.
