Muskogee Resident Sentenced to 20 Years for Child Sex Abuse

A federal judge in Oklahoma has handed down a lengthy sentence to a McAlester man accused of sexually abusing a minor in Indian Country.

Dustin Dewayne Bristow, 37, was sentenced to 240 months in prison for his crimes, which occurred between 2007 and 2008 in Pittsburg County within the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation.

Bristow pleaded guilty to one count of Sexual Abuse in Indian Country on February 14, 2022, in federal district court. He admitted to committing the crime against a child under the age of 16.

The Honorable Jodi W. Dishman, U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing, which was held in Muskogee. Bristow will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal until he is transported to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his sentence.

Bristow’s attorney, Assistant United States Attorney Edith A. Singer, represented the United States in the case.

The case is a stark reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable members of our communities, particularly children. As a society, we must remain vigilant in our efforts to prevent and prosecute crimes like these, which have a devastating impact on victims and their families.

The sentence handed down in this case is a significant step towards justice for the victim and their loved ones. We hope that it will also serve as a deterrent to others who would consider committing similar crimes.
