Ronell Rogers, a 33-year-old New Haven resident, has been sentenced to 6 years in prison for distributing fentanyl and violating the conditions of his supervised release. The sentence comes after Rogers was arrested on May 2, 2024, during a traffic stop that followed a controlled purchase of fentanyl. At the time of his arrest, Rogers possessed a stash of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin packaged for distribution, including meth pills shaped like cartoon characters that could be mistaken for candy.
Rogers has a history of narcotics distribution and firearm possession offenses, having been sentenced in New Haven federal court on January 5, 2022, to 37 months of imprisonment. He was released from federal prison in March 2024 and began serving a three-year term of supervised release, which was subsequently revoked. On October 10, 2025, Rogers pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, fentanyl.
The investigation was led by the New Haven Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with the case prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel George. U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley sentenced Rogers to 63 months of imprisonment for the narcotics offense, and an additional 9 months for violating the conditions of his supervised release.
Rogers’ sentence serves as a warning to those involved in the illicit drug trade in Connecticut. The distribution of fentanyl and other narcotics poses a significant threat to public health and safety, and law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle these operations.
