Cocaine Possession Rocks Omaha Bus Station

In a stunning display of brazen criminality, 25-year-old Fernando Aguirre-Quintero, a Laguna, California resident, has been sentenced to 90 months in federal prison for possession with intent to deliver 500 grams or more of cocaine.

Aguirre-Quintero’s downward spiral began on March 1, 2023, when he got off a bus at the Trailways Bus Station in downtown Omaha. A DEA task force officer initiated a conversation with the suspect, who claimed to have snuck onto the bus without a ticket.

When asked to produce his bus ticket, Aguirre-Quintero made the incriminating admission, which prompted the officer to conduct a canine sniff of his backpack. The canine positively alerted to the scent of narcotics, leading to a search of the backpack pursuant to a warrant.

Five sealed packages containing approximately one kilogram of cocaine each were seized from Aguirre-Quintero’s backpack. The discovery marked a significant blow to the local cocaine trade and serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illicit substances.

Aguirre-Quintero’s prior drug-related arrest, as advised by dispatch, raises questions about the suspect’s level of involvement in the cocaine trade. It remains to be seen whether this sentence will have a significant deterrent effect on would-be traffickers in the Omaha area.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Nebraska State Patrol, with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office chemistry division providing forensic testing of the seized cocaine. United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentencing on September 5, 2024, in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska.
