ST. LOUIS – In a shocking turn of events, former middle school teacher Scott R. Ellis, 39, was sentenced to seven years in prison for his despicable crime of possessing child pornography.
Ellis faced the justice system after authorities uncovered a trove of graphic material on his electronic devices. The investigation revealed that Ellis had over 700 videos and more than 900 images of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) stored in his Mega cloud storage account and 72 images on his cell phone.
The horror didn’t end there; the CSAM in Ellis’s Google account triggered two cyber tipline reports to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, ultimately leading to his downfall. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the FBI and the St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Special Investigations.
Pleading guilty to one felony count of possession of child pornography in February, Ellis also had to pay $90,500 in restitution to 12 identified victims. Upon his release from prison, he will be on supervised release for life, a stark reminder that some lines are simply too dark to cross.
The Affton School District’s Rogers Middle School, where Ellis taught at the time of his crimes, has been placed under scrutiny since the revelation of his activities. Ellis had previously worked in the Hancock Place School District in St. Louis County.
