Heroin Dealer Admits to Possession Charge
A 34-year-old Wetzel County man has admitted to a serious heroin charge after a guilty plea in federal court. Christian Iversen, of New Martinsville, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin.’
The crime occurred in August 2019 in Marshall County, where Iversen was found to be in possession of heroin. Iversen faces up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000 as a result of his plea. The actual sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and Iversen’s prior criminal history.
The case was investigated by the Marshall County Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney David J. Perri is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided over the case, accepting Iversen’s guilty plea. The defendant now awaits sentencing, which will be determined by the court based on the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Iversen’s guilty plea is a significant blow to those involved in the heroin trade in West Virginia. Heroin has been a major issue in the state for years, with many communities struggling with addiction and overdose.
The Marshall County Drug Task Force and law enforcement agencies across the state are working tirelessly to combat the heroin epidemic. This case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences that come with being involved in the heroin trade.
As a result of Iversen’s guilty plea, he is now facing a significant prison sentence and a substantial fine. It remains to be seen how his case will play out in the coming months, but one thing is certain: Iversen’s involvement in the heroin trade will not be forgotten.
