Michael Beans, Wildlife Crimes, Alaska 2022

⏱ 2 min read

A brazen wildlife guiding scam in rural Alaska has landed a St. Mary’s man a 3-year prison sentence.

Michael Beans, 36, preyed on out-of-state hunters, collecting over $59,000 in deposits for guided bull moose hunts he had no license to lead.

Between October 2021 and December 2022, Beans contacted hunters on social media, promising discounts for early payments and cancelled on them without refund when the first group of hunters arrived in September 2022.

But three hunters who showed up in September 2022 managed to track down Beans and convinced him to take them on the hunt, where Beans assisted in killing three bull moose.

Beans was sentenced to 3 years in prison and ordered to pay over $64,000 in restitution.
