Crime Beat: In a stunning display of criminal recidivism, Jeffrey Haydock, 58, from Watertown, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to over nineteen years in federal prison for a brazen bank robbery spree in Iowa. Haydock, who was already on parole for prior bank robberies, struck twice at the heart of downtown Cedar Rapids, targeting both the First Federal Credit Union and the Linn Area Credit Union.
On July 30, 2009, and November 12, 2009, Haydock robbed the First Federal Credit Union. He struck again on February 17, 2010, at the Linn Area Credit Union. During each heist, the 58-year-old was armed with what appeared to be a gun, causing panic among staff and customers.
Haydock’s latest misdeeds came while he was still serving parole for a 1986 federal conviction for bank robbery and a Wisconsin conviction for multiple bank robberies. The justice system showed no leniency as United States District Court Chief Judge Linda R. Reade sentenced Haydock to 235 months’ imprisonment.
In addition to his prison term, Haydock must pay a special assessment of $200 and make restitution to the affected banks. His supervised release term will last five years following his prison sentence, with no possibility of parole in the federal system.
The prosecution was led by Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Morfitt, while the Cedar Rapids Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation investigated the case. Court file information is available at https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov, with the case file number 14-CR-0047.
