Cook Sentenced for DEA Property Theft in PA

PITTSBURGH – In a grim reminder of the corruption that can rear its head within law enforcement ranks, Holly A. Cook, 44, of Monongahela, PA, has been sentenced to one year probation and 50 hours of community service for her conviction of stealing $1,800 from the DEA.

Cook’s crime came to light in June 2012 when she embezzled the cash, knowing full well it wasn’t hers to take. Today, Senior United States District Judge Donetta W. Ambrose imposed the sentence after considering Cook’s lack of prior criminal history, her acceptance of responsibility, and her complete repayment of the stolen funds.

Before delivering the sentence, Judge Ambrose highlighted these factors in her decision-making process. Assistant United States Attorney Mary McKeen Houghton represented the government in this case, ensuring justice was served for the DEA’s loss.

U.S. Attorney David J. Hickton commended the Special Agents of the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of the Inspector General, who were instrumental in uncovering and prosecuting Cook’s crime.

This sentencing serves as a stark reminder that even those charged with upholding the law are not immune to the temptation of financial gain through criminal activity.

The case underscores the DEA’s commitment to integrity and accountability within its ranks, showcasing the agency’s ability to root out corruption and seek justice for any breaches of trust.
