GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Mark Roman, a 53-year-old resident of East Windsor, Connecticut, was arrested yesterday and charged with production of child pornography and transportation of child pornography. The charges stem from the discovery of approximately 3,000 images and videos of child exploitation on his electronic devices.
Roman’s alleged crimes were uncovered when Yahoo! reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that Roman’s email account was transmitting disturbing images. A state search warrant at his residence yielded evidence of a depraved pattern involving sexual abuse of minors, including one girl between the ages of six and eight.
The severity of the charges is not lost on Acting United States Attorney Leonard C Boyle, who emphasized that while criminal complaints indicate allegations, a defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. Roman’s mandatory minimum sentence for production of child pornography is 15 years, with a maximum of 30 years. The transportation charge carries a mandatory minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years.
Investigation and prosecution of this case are being handled by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Connecticut State Police, in collaboration with the East Windsor Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Nancy V. Gifford is leading the prosecution effort.
Acting U.S. Attorney Boyle also expressed gratitude to the Hartford State’s Attorney’s Office for their cooperation. This case is part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Childhood Initiative, dedicated to protecting children from sexual abuse and exploitation.
