Syracuse, NY – Brent G. Trimbell, 44, from Delaware County, was busted Sunday for sexually exploiting a minor, according to the DOJ USAO. The complaint claims Trimbell sent lewd messages and requested explicit videos from the victim, who complied via social media. He’s also accused of engaging in sexual contact with the child and sharing disturbing videos of himself. Trimbell had prior state sex charges but was released on bail before facing federal charges.
Trimbell faces a maximum 30-year sentence if convicted under federal law, including a mandatory minimum of 15 years. Acting U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III emphasized the severity of the crime: ‘Trimbell is now in federal custody, facing serious federal offenses that will result in a mandatory term of imprisonment of 15 years if convicted.’
FBI Special Agent in Charge Craig L. Tremaroli praised the cooperation between agencies in bringing Trimbell to justice: ‘The FBI, with our partners at the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office, will continue to ensure anyone hurting our most vulnerable is investigated and brought to justice.’
Trimbell was remanded to federal custody following his initial appearance. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael D. Gadarian is prosecuting the case as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide effort to combat child sexual exploitation.
The charges are merely accusations, and Trimbell is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The investigation is ongoing by the FBI and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.
